6 Ways to Wear Denim This Summer

Skinny

Some gals consider them staples, while others continue to pray that they just go away (as in forever). In spite of any rumors you may have heard earlier this spring, here’s the official skinny on skinnies: skinny jeans are still right on-trend for ladies who love this more streamlined look, though they are up against some fierce competition from more tailored and loose-fitting denim styles—music to the ears of both fans and haters. Still, if prefer your jeans on the svelte side, this season, you’ll want to pair them with heels and tucked-in, form-fitting tops (like Tees by Tina )for even sleeker silhouette—or balance your “dennies” with looser-fitting cold and flashdance shoulder tops that show off those sun-kissed shoulders that have long pined for some summer breeze.

Cropped, Baggier Boyfriend Cuts

For ladies looking for a little more “give” in their denim, relaxed if not loose-fitting, cropped denim is THE look this season, and luckily for us, it’s much more forgiving in the hips & thigh area without compromising on style. If you’re used to yanking on jeggings, this top trend may feel a bit bizarre at first, though you’ll feel noticeably cooler and more liberated in your movement—an ideal combo that feels refreshing under the heat of the summer sun. While gaucho styles that gradually flare along the hemline are making a huge splash, we laud the  more flattering straighter-leg crop, with a roll cuff you can adjust depending on how much calf you dare to bare.

Top-wise, practically anything goes with a great-fitting pair of denim crops! Let loose with a more bell-shaped cold-shoulder piece, pull on a fun statement-making muscle tee, or spring for a form-fitting tucked-in top for a more contoured look.

White Monochromatic

Love denim but angling for a more summery finish? White denim is the antidote, which doesn’t just epitomize summer, but also meets this season’s white hot trend. Even hotter? The ever classic white-on-white look that just gushes cool & classy vibes at every turn.

With this crisp trend, choose whichever cropped, skinny or straight-legged style you prefer, paired with a white top that works seamlessly with your chosen bottom style (remember form-fitting and/or tucked-in tops balances looser bottoms and vice versa). And whatever your skintone, white attire enhances it, giving the appearance of more suntanned skin (even if you avoid the sun’s rays like the scale after an epic chocolate binge). Pair your monochromatic white-hot get-up with black, silver or gold accessories that don’t distract from this otherwise consistently chic style.

Distressed Denim

This just in: distressed denim makes for the coolest low-key, yet refined look you’ll find this summer. And we’re in blue jean heaven because deconstructed denim not only feels like a welcome departure from the Monday-Friday trouser/cardigan grind—it’s a much lighter feeling denim choice for summer.

While the act of simply wearing a pair of distressed denim jeans automatically decrees your cool factor, crank it up a notch by pairing  your deliciously shredded denim with fun statement tees and athleisure-style tops, or create some contrast with a chic form-fitting top and more elegant long and layered necklace. Whatever shirt you top this edgy denim off with, mix things up with wedges or some sandals with heel.

Denim Tops

Not into jeans as much in the summer heat...or just captivated with printed bottoms and skirts? Move your denim up top in cool, flowy, shoulder-baring cuts that pop fun prints, tanned legs or lighter bottoms. Trendier this summer than your average tees are tops with oomph and character—and nothing feels more substantial than a cool denim blouse that makes a strong statement even without accessories. Or just go all out with denim-on-denim, which continues to exude trendsetting style. Pair with more natural-feeling accessories like wood and cork but do feel free to get more funky with your sunnies.

Jean Jackets

Jean jackets are essentially timeless—not just in terms of cross-generational style, but their wearability at practically any time of year. In the summer months, jean jackets pair perfectly over dresses and tanks for a chic look that keeps the goosebumps at bay in the office AC. Even better, they extend the wearability of sleeveless dresses and tops you might not otherwise wear to work or gatherings that really require a more covered-up look. Whether you go white or more classic-colored denim, this style jacket lends a fun, trendy feel to whatever you’re wearing!
